Many Migrations: Korean Diaspora Literature

This course will examine Korean diaspora literature by analyzing Pachinko as a case study. Through a comparative analysis of Pachinko with other works of the Korean diaspora, the course will identify and discuss tropes, archetypes, and themes that run through these texts while at the same time capturing the specific local experiences of different Korean migrations. Students will become familiar with analyzing literature across linguistic, national, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries to understand the dynamic factors that create and complicate how to think about the Korean diaspora and its representations.
